Commissioner Shoemaker Appointed to Shock Trauma Board

Commissioner Haven Shoemaker said he knows first-hand how important Shock Trauma is to Maryland residents.

Carroll County Commissioner Haven Shoemaker was recently appointed to the University of Maryland Medical Center Shock Trauma Board in Baltimore, Maryland.

Senator Francis X. Kelly, who serves as Chairman of the Board of Visitors, made the appointment, according to a news release. There are 47 members who sit on the Shock Trauma Board of Visitors. Each member represents specific aspects of the many communities throughout the state of Maryland. Shoemaker was chosen for his leadership, knowledge, and experience in government.

"I'm honored to have been asked to serve on the Board for the best trauma center in the world. Every year, they serve about 8,000 people, and have a 97% survival rate. A few hundred of those people come from Carroll County each year," Shoemaker told Patch in an email.

Shoemaker said he serves as a director on several other boards including the Marriage Resource Center of Carroll County and Carroll County Habitat for Humanity, and he serves on the Deacon Board at Westminster Baptist Church.

"Having had my younger brother flown there after a car accident in 1991, I know first-hand how blessed we are as a state to have an institution like Shock Trauma so close. I look forward to trying to help them," Shoemaker said.
