Commissioners Doug Howard and David Roush spurred discussion about economic development in Carroll County.

Carroll County Commissioners Doug Howard and David Roush recently hosted Carroll County’s first Economic Summit.

Representatives from town and business associations, along with other business and industry leaders from around the county and the state, met at Carroll Community College to discuss economic development in the county, according to a news release.

After presentations by Howard and Deputy Director of Economic Development, Denise Beaver, summit participants broke into small groups to discuss economic development goals, best practices and resources needed for implementation.

According to a news release, each group focused on a specific area important to economic development, including corporate retention and business assistance, business attraction and marketing, small business and entrepreneurship and locating a business and the development process.

Over the next few weeks county staff will study the suggestions and develop strategies for using and implementing them.

The commissioners said they plan on hosting another economic summit at the end of August and a broader economic conference sometime in October, according to a news release.

"It is exciting to see municipalities interact together and share thoughts and ideas that will bring our county business and industry to the forefront," said Nancy McCormick, economic development director for Taneytown.
