County Commissioners Recognize the Work of the Red Cross

National Red Cross Month was recognized locally this morning through a County Commissioner proclamation presentation.

Thursday morning, Carroll County volunteers with the American Red Cross of Central Maryland received a Commissioner's proclamation.

According to a news release, throughout Central Maryland 2,491 individuals received disaster services, nearly 125,000 units of blood were collected and 1,207 emergency-related services were provided to military personnel and their families in 2010.  The impact of the American Red Cross is nationwide, but also active right here in our own backyards.

Since the start of fiscal year 2011 the local Disaster Action Team (DAT) has responded to 12 fires in Carroll County and assisted a total of 42 individuals who were affected.  Volunteers on the local Carroll County Red Cross Board raise funds that contribute to these and other services provided free of charge to residents.  There are approximately 40 registered volunteers in Carroll County.
