Fraternal Order of Police Lobs More Accusations at Westminster Leadership

The Carroll County Fraternal Order of Police continues to allege misspending by city officials and police leadership.

The Carroll County Fraternal Order of Police said Wednesday the organization has been inundated with phone calls from employees of the City of Westminster and other citizens alleging inappropriate spending by police and city officials. The city, in turn, accused the FOP of using intimidation tactics to force collective bargaining.

As previously reported by Patch, last month the Carroll County Fraternal Order of Police accused the city and police leadership of misusing funds and questioned policing strategies.

The FOP reports that it has established a “City of Westminster Fraud Hotline.”

“We owe it to the citizens of Westminster to ensure that their tax dollars are being spent properly,” FOP President John Shippee said in the statement.

As with the previous allegations, Westminster city officials say that the FOP is trying to bully the city into a collective bargaining agreement.

"I have no problem with any measure that helps guarantee the continued integrity of city government," said Westminster Common Council President Damian Halstad. "However, I view this as part of a larger, frankly cynical plan to goad the city into agreeing to a union."
