Lt. Gov. Brown to Speak in Sykesville Friday

Maryland Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown will attend a graduation ceremony in Sykesville this Friday, Feb. 8, where he will act as the keynote speaker.

Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown will be making an appearance in Sykesville Friday: He is scheduled to speak at the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services Entry Level Training Program graduation ceremony.

The ceremony will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the DPSCS Public Safety Education and Training Center, located at 6852 4th St. on the grounds of the Springfield Hospital Center in Sykesville.

DPSCS Secretary Gary Maynard will also be speaking.

The ceremony will celebrate the graduation of 18 men and women who will be sent to eight state correctional facilities in the Baltimore, Jessup and Sykesville areas, as part of the Public Safety team, according to a news release.

Two men will go to Montgomery County facilities where they will serve as correctional officers, officials said.

These men and women are the second to complete a newly revised and lengthened curriculum introduced in 2012 in an effort to turn out better prepared and highly professional officers, public safety officials said.

These officers will be joining one of the largest agencies in Maryland.

With nearly 12,000 employees, the DPSCS is responsible for maintenance of Maryland’s Criminal Justice Information Repository, the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board, the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions, the Emergency Number Systems Board and many other important functions across Maryland’s criminal justice system, officials said.
