Obamacare, Abortion and Contraception: What Do You Think?

Does a government requirement for health plans to cover contraceptives violate religious freedom?

Supreme Court to rule on Obamacare requirements.
Supreme Court to rule on Obamacare requirements.

Obamacare and abortion, as separate issues, make for some often incendiary debate. Put those two issues together, and you have something like happened on Tuesday, when hundreds of protesters chanted and waved signs at the Supreme Court in Washington, D.C.

The protesters gathered as the justices convened to hear a closely watched case about whether Obamacare violates the religious freedom of employers by requiring them to provide insurance for preventive care, including contraceptives such as the morning-after pill, diaphragms and intrauterine devices.

Which raises the question:

  • Is requiring health plans to pay for contraception reasonable, or is it a government infringement on religious freedom? Tell us in comments below.

The government argues that freedom of religion applies only to company owners as individuals, not to the companies themselves.

On the other side are those who argue that forcing company health plans to pay for contraceptives violates their freedom to practice religion as they see fit.

A ruling is expected this summer.

I look forward to seeing the notice in the Patch of your liquidation. Don't let us down for we know you would not ask others to do what you would not first do yourself.
