Due to the extreme security, we leave the convention and walk a quarter mile to the bus at midnight, get on the bus and ride half an hour to the Devil Rays stadium and find our hotel bus, out of three choices, then ride on this bus for an hour back to the hotel at 1 am.   Our speakers today at the Maryland breakfast were the governor of Wyoming Andy Harris and Paul Ryan’s brother and sister in law.

After being delayed by Hurricane Isaac, the convention got off with a bang.   I would say it was “Ladies Night”.    Republicans are criticized as being against women.

Anyone watching the convention last night saw a literal parade of accomplished  women  leaders of the Republican Party.   Governors  -   Attorneys General  -  Lieutenant Governors, led off by Janine Turner, an accomplished actress and talk show host  -  and gorgeous to boot.

Without a doubt the highlight of the evening was Ann Romney.  Rather than get political, she gave the audience an insight into the Mitt Romney that she calls her husband, the father of her kids and the grandfather of their grand-children.  It was highly personal, focusing on the sharing that went on in their home.      I heard that Juan Williams and Charles Krauthammer didn’t care too much for the speech.  I say, “Duh  -  it wasn’t INTENDED to impress YOU.  It was intended to reach the WOMEN out there, young and old, to see a side of Mitt Romney that they would admire in the men in their lives.

Chris Christie was a huge hit also.   He went right to the issues as only he can do.   My favorite quote related to the Teachers.  He said that we are fighting the Teachers UNION, not the Teachers.  A quote that brought the convention to their feet was when he said to Obama, “Real leaders don’t follow polls, they change polls”

The best thing about being here, on the convention floor, rather than watching it on TV is the people you meet.   Due to a great seat, I was next to Newt Gingrich, Governor Jan Brewer, Chris Wallace; but my favorites were the team from the FOX NEWS show THE FIVE.   I got to meet Eric Bolin, and was next to Kimberly Guilfoil and Shannon Bream.  The ladies are even more beautiful in person than they are on TV.    To the men reading this, I say, “Eat your heart out.”
