Important Dates

  • Wednesday, Feb. 27: Board meeting with FY14 operating budget adoption at 1 p.m. Board work session immediately following. 
  • Monday, March 4: Two hour and forty-five minute early dismissal system-wide for professional development.
  • Thursday, March 7: Education forum with Superintendent Stephen Guthrie at Century High School at 7 p.m.

Northwest Region Strings Extravaganza

The six public schools in the Northwest Region of Carroll County (Francis Scott Key High School, New Windsor and Northwest Middle Schools, and Elmer A. Wolfe, Runnymede and Taneytown Elementary Schools) have planned a Regional Strings Extravaganza to be held Thursday, Feb. 28, at 7 pm.

The purpose is to promote string instrument performance and to encourage current students to continue to participate in school orchestra throughout their public school years. Students will rehearse and perform in a Suzuki-style concert, culminating in a mass string orchestra which should number over 100 string musicians. The concert is free and open to the public.

Cinderella’s Closet – Francis Scott Key High School

The National Honor Society from Francis Scott Key High School is sponsoring Cinderella’s Closet on Saturday, March 2, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the FSK media center. The event allows students and community members to purchase donated dresses ranging from $5 to $30. There are many dresses in all sizes and styles available. There also will be a professional makeup artist giving makeup tips this year.

All proceeds benefit the National Honor Society’s Secret Santa program. The Secret Santa program purchases Christmas gifts for families in the FSK community who would otherwise not have any.

Basket and Bag Bingo

Century High School’s Class of 2013 will sponsor a basket and bag bingo night on Friday, March 8, in the school cafeteria. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and games start at 7 p.m. Longaberger baskets and Vera Bradley bags will be filled with exciting prizes. There will be 20 games, special games, and raffles, along with baked goods, pizza, and more food. Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door. “Pastabilities” Dinner/Student Technology Showcase at Cranberry Station Elementary School

The Cranberry Station Elementary School Student Government Association is pleased to host a Pastabilities Dinner and Student Technology Showcase on Friday, March 8, from 6 to 8 p.m.  Throughout the evening, participants will be able to see the technology being used in classroom instruction throughout the building. Throughout the evening, guests may purchase a pasta dinner for $5.00 each.

Basket Bingo – South Carroll High School

The South Carroll High School Band Boosters will host its annual Irish Basket Bingo on Saturday, March 16, at South Carroll High School.

Prizes will include Longaberger baskets filled with valuable donations from local businesses. There will also be door prizes, 50/50 raffles, and games for all ages.

Light dinner menu options will be available along with snacks and desserts. A big turnout is expected again this year and tickets may be purchased in advance by calling 410-635-2585. Businesses may also call this number to donate prizes and receive recognition for their support of local music students. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and bingo starts at 6:30. Tickets will be available at the door.
