Board of Education Meeting Sept. 11

The Board of Education of Carroll County will hold a regular meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 5 p.m. in the Charles I. Ecker Boardroom at the Board of Education offices, located at 125 North Court Street in Westminster. There will be time for citizen participation at this meeting. The public is encouraged to attend.

FFA Career Development Event Winners from Francis Scott Key High School

The Francis Scott Key High School FFA Livestock Evaluation team captured 1st place team honors in the Maryland FFA Career Development Event held at the Howard County Fair. The team consisted of Dean Bennett, Kyle Cooney, Austin Stoner, and Aubrey Bennett, who placed 2nd, 3rd, 8th, and 14th respectively as individuals. The team will represent the Maryland FFA at the National Convention competition being held in Louisville, Kentucky, in October. In addition, Autumn Lippy competed in the Dairy Handlers event, placing 3rd overall and receiving gold recognition for her individual placing. 


Community Forum – Common Core and PARCC Assessments

A Community Forum on The Common Core State Standards and PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) Assessments will be held on Thursday, Sept. 19, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Winters Mill High School, located at 560 Gorsuch Road in Westminster. The forum is being presented by Carroll Values Education and the Parent Guides for Carroll County Public Schools.

Parents and members of the community are invited to attend the forum, which will provide answers to questions about the Common Core. The guest speakers will be Cheryl Bost, Vice President of the Maryland State Education Association, and Carroll County Public Schools staff members Margaret Pfaff, Director of Curriculum and Instructional Resources, and Pam Mesta, Supervisor of ESOL.

Marching Band Extravaganza – Liberty High School

Liberty High School will be hosting a Marching Band Extravaganza on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 5 p.m., with schools from the surrounding counties and states competing in a Tournament of Band competition.  The LHS Instrumental Music Boosters are pleased to announce the marching band's show, The BirdFlight of the Thunderbird, Hummingbird and Cirque du Solei’s Alegria
