Cranberry Station Elementary Needs Votes to Win a New Playground

Cranberry Station Elementary is a nominee in The Clorox Company's Power A Bright Future contest, with hopes of upgrading the school's playground.

In response to ever decreasing school budgets, The Clorox Company has set up a grant contest to fund programs that help children to play, create and explore.  Following a competitive national nomination period Cranberry Station Elementary has been cast as a nominee for a chance to win up to $50,000.

The Cranberry Station PTO entered the contest in order to raise money to purchase and install new playground equipment.  According to their submission most of their playground equipment was removed from the kindergarten play area last year as it did not meet current safety standards.

As Cranberry Station receives no county or state funding toward playgrounds, any amount won will be put toward the $60,000 total estimate that county approved vendors suggest it will take to repair and upgrade the playground.

The submission explains that with the increased computer games and consoles, there has been a coinciding decrease in the amount of time children spend outdoors. Ultimately, this grant aims to help with the essential goal of increasing the amount of time children spend outdoors for both their health and wellbeing.

From October 24 through December 9, 2011, anyone age 13 and older may visit www.PowerABrightFuture.com to vote for the program they feel is most deserving of the grant (ehem, Cranberry Station Elementary).

The program that recieves the most votes will receive the $50,000 grand prize.  The submissions with the second most votes in the Play, Create and Explore categories and one submission chosen by a Clorox judging panel will each receive $25,000 grants.

PTO President Aimee Schultz said she hopes people will spread the word about the contest. For promotional templates that you may use to print, email or post to any of your social networks, click here.
