Cross County Season Gets Under Way Saturday

Westminster and Winters Mill will travel to Emmitsburg Saturday.

Both Westminster and Winters Mill hit the hills Saturday to open the cross country season.

The Falcons and Owls will meet in Emmitsburg Saturday for the Peter Geraghty Invite. Here is a look ahead at what we might expect to see from each this team this season.

Westminster Boys

Ryan DuLaney is returning for his third year of coaching the Owls. They were second in the county last year.

The top four runners for Westminster are seniors Alex Cooke, Ethan March, Kevin Taylor and Mark Walther. Cooke placed sixth in the county meet last fall.

The Owls host Francis Scott Key, South Carroll and Century on Tuesday.

Westminster Girls

The Owls look to improve on their sixth place finish in the county meet. Head coach Theresa Zoschg is entering her sixth year of leading the Owls.

Junior Natalie Eastwood is the top returner for Westminster. She finished ninth in the county meet last year. Joining her are seniors Sara Bucacink, Katie Ozgun and Hannah Sisler and junior Anna Parsons.

 

Winters Mill Boys

Coach Dan Replogle led the Falcons to the county title last year and starts his fifth year with the school.

The Falcons lost one runner, Ryan Spangler to graduation and will be the favorite to retain the county title.

Four of the top runners are seniors: Reilly Cox, Zach Hopkins, Alex Warfield and Will Weisgerber. Junior Weston Carvalho rounds out the Falcons top five runners.

Winters Mill Girls

Coach Kelly Gruber starts her fifth year with the Falcons, who finished second in the county last year.

Winters Mill has three seniors in the line-up with Kim Meyers, Nicole Rutherford and Hannah Onedia. Looking to be a scorer this year is first time runner, junior Danielle May-West,

Onedia is the runner that will lead the Falcons. She is the returning county and regional champion.
