Century was defeated in the first of three soccer games scheduled for this week.

Century got a tough week of girls soccer underway with a 3-1 loss to Westminster.

The Knights have three county matches this week starting with the Owls on Monday night. The game with Liberty was moved from Wednesday until today due to the threat of rain. Century plays county foe South Carroll on Thursday.

Century is now 3-1 in the county and 5-3 overall. Westminster takes over the county lead with a 4-1 record. The Owls are 4-4 overall.

"We kind of started off slow and Westminster is a good team and we just couldn’t pull it together tonight," said Century coach Sara Figuly.

Century came back to tie the score off the foot of Erin Cooper with 7:14 on the clock.

"The first half I thought we were too selfish. Everyone was trying to take that shot and make the big play. We talked at half time to play team ball and it really made a difference in the second half," said Westminster coach Bird Brown.

Westminster’s Mackenzie Murray found the net twice in the second half to put the game away for the Owls. Her first goal was unassisted with 29:56 left in the game. The second goal was a pass from Arianna Rinda which she punched in for the third Owl goal.

"That’s the play we work on everyday in practice from the time your six years old all the way up," Brown said.

Westminster had two players come to the bench in the second half due to injuries. Becca Peak suffered a possible sprained ankle and goalie Alayna Morris took a hit late in the game.

Asked about the injuries, Brown said, "It’s part of the game. The next person has to step up."

"We have to pick our heads up and use today as an experience and hopefully we can get a win tomorrow (today)," said Figuly.
