McDaniel College Closed Thursday, Continues Work to Restore Power
College officials anticipate that power will be restored to the entire campus Thursday afternoon.
McDaniel College, originally planning to open for undergraduate classes at noon Thursday, announced that it will be closed for the entire day as workers continue to repair a damaged transformer that left many at the school without power earlier this week.
A transformer failed on Sunday causing loss of power to a majority of campus buildings, according to McDaniel's Director of Media Relations, Cheryl Knauer. Power was restored to the majority of campus by Tuesday, with the exception of several academic buildings including Hoover Library, Merritt Hall, Gill Center and Baker Memorial Chapel.
Undergraduate classes were held Tuesday and Wednesday and graduate classes were cancelled Wednesday evening. The College announced early Thursday that classes are cancelled for the day.
"Progress continues on replacing broken and damaged underground electrical cables," Knauer told Patch.
The college anticipates that power will be restored late afternoon, according to Knauer.
