McDaniel's Gill Stadium Construction on Pace for Opening Football Game

Although the stadium won't be complete by the opening football game on Sept. 15, the necessary facilities will be in place to host the game.

Construction on Gill Stadium at continues at an aggressive pace, according to a college representative.

McDaniel College's Director of Public Relations Cheryl Knauer told Patch that the new stadium road is near completion and will be open for students
arriving back to campus in time for the fall semester.

Although Knauer said it is unlikely that the stadium will be completely finished for the opening football game on Sept. 15, she said that the stadium will be complete enough to host athletes and spectators for another exciting McDaniel football game.

"We anticipate that the main components of the project, including the stadium grandstands, will be completed for the first home football game on Sept. 15," Knauer said. "It is likely that the stadium will not be fully functioning and occupancy permits in place for the opening game. We are already planning to temporarily provide restroom facilities near the field and meet any game management needs. None of this will impact the game experience for spectators or the student athletes on the field."

Construction on the stadium should be fully completed midway through the
football season, Knauer said.

"Plans are underway for the dedication of the stadium during the Homecoming football game on Nov. 3 when we have the greatest number of alumni return to the college," Knauer said.
