O’Reilly Miani, a member of the Class of 2013 at Francis Scott Key High School, will be seated as the Student Representative on the Board of Education of Carroll County on Wednesday, June 13.
Miani is actively involved in student government and was elected Vice President and President of her Class. She has served as the historian for the Student Government Association, treasurer of the Leo Club, and SGA Representative to the National Honor Society. Miani’s other activities at Francis Scott Key High School include performing in school talent shows and musicals, playing varsity and JV volleyball, and serving as a member of the Debate Team.
According to Miani, “I ran for Student Representative on the Board because I saw it as the most effective way to help my classmates and gain valuable life experiences.” She shadowed Student Representative Angela Bladen throughout the 2011-2012 school year and is looking forward to sitting on the Board for the upcoming year.
Miani was selected as a Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) program nominee and attended the 2011 National Honor Society Leadership Conference. She served as a delegate to the Maryland Association of Student Councils in 2011 and 2012 and lobbied for Senate Bill 660 in Annapolis.
Miani speaks Italian and Spanish and is an accomplished classical pianist. She has won numerous awards in the Barnes-Ferencz Memorial Piano Competition and was accepted into the National Piano Masters Guild with bronze and gold medals. She plans to continue playing the piano throughout college. Miani is active in the Personal Progress Program in the Young Women’s organization at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and received the Presidential Scholar Award for her seminary class. She is also a trained volunteer for Days End Horse Rescue Farm and volunteered for the 4-H Therapeutic Riding Program.
