Supervisor of Career and Technology Education Receives MSDE Distinguished Service Award

Marjorie Lohnes has been the Supervisor of Career and Technology Education since 1993.

Marjorie Lohnes, Supervisor of Career and Technology Education for Carroll County Public Schools, has been selected as the recipient of the Outstanding Secondary Distinguished Service Award.

The award is part of the Career and Technology Education Awards of Excellence program sponsored by the Maryland State Department of Education, Division of Career and College Readiness.

This award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated a high level of leadership, vision, and achievement in career and technology education according to a news release.  One award is presented in this category.  

Lohnes has served as Supervisor of Career and Technology Education since 1993. 

Under her leadership, Carroll County has implemented many rigorous programs of study that provide students with cutting-edge career and technology education in areas including engineering, biomedical sciences, health professions, finance, agriscience, teacher education, and the culinary arts according to a news release. During her tenure, the Carroll County Career and Technology Center was named a national model school for Project Lead the Way Engineering and Biomedical Sciences, and the Manufacturing and Machine Technologies program was the first NIMS accredited facility in Maryland.

The postsecondary partnerships Lohnes has established provide students with at least 35 completer programs that carry articulated, transcripted, and/or certificated programs and/or credits. Lohnes also continues to build and sustain many business partnerships that bring members of the business community into the schools and provide quality internships for students.

Lohnes will receive the award at a ceremony to be held on Tuesday, April 23, at the Sheraton Baltimore City Center Hotel. She was previously recognized by the Maryland State Department of Education in 2009 with the Outstanding Change Agent Award of Excellence.
