Upcoming Carroll County Graduation Ceremonies

As the 2012-2013 school year comes to a close, many seniors prepare to say goodbye to their classmates and their schools.  Below is information about local graduation ceremonies.

Upcoming High School Graduation Ceremonies

Century High School

• When:  Friday, June 7, 7:30 – 9: 30 p.m.
• Where:  Gill Center, McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster
• Additional Information:  No additional information available at this time.

Francis Scott Key High School

• When:  Friday, June 7, 2 p.m.
• Where:  Gill Center, McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster
• Additional Information: The adult speaker will be Theonia Boyd, M.D., Ms. Boyd graduated from FSK as Valedictorian in 1978.  She is now the Director, Division of Anatomic Pathology Department of Pathology Children's Hospital Boston Associate Professor of Pathology Harvard Medical School.  There will also be a student speaker, Ms. O’Reilly Miani, Student Member of the Board of Education.

Liberty High School

• When:  Wednesday, June 5, 7 p.m.
• Where:  Gill Center, McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster
• Additional Information:  This year’s commencement speaker will be Adam Fuhr, a mathematics teacher at Liberty High School.  There will also be a student speaker, Andy Boyer.

Manchester Valley High School

• When:  Thursday, June 6, 7:30 p.m.
• Where:  Gill Center, McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster
• Additional Information:  The class of 2013 is the first class to have completed all four years at Manchester Valley High School. Speaking at the ceremony will be Mr. Steve Findeisen a Manchester Valley teacher.

North Carroll High School

• When:  Saturday, June 8, 1:30 p.m.
• Where:  Gill Center, McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster
• Additional Information:  The commencement speaker will be a surprise for the students and their families.

South Carroll High School

• When:  Sunday, June 9, 1:30 p.m.
• Where:  Gill Center, McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster
• Additional Information: Sara Debnam, English teacher at South Carroll High School will be acting as the commencement speaker.

Westminster High School

• When:  Saturday, June 8, 7:30 p.m.
• Where:  Gill Arena, McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster
• Additional Information:  There will be three student speakers and there will be remarks by Principal Kenneth J. Goncz.

Winters Mill High School

• When:  Thursday, June 6, 2 p.m.
• Where:  Gill Center, McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster
• Additional Information:  Speakers will include Ms. Sherri Le-Bream, First Winters Mill Principal, Mr. Joseph Guerra, Assistant Principal, Mr.Eric King Principal.  Addresses will be given by Ms. Katelyn Anne Goodhart, President of the S.G.A., Ms. Megan Caroline Frye, President of the class of 2013, Ms. Madeline Yeakel Lichtfuss, President, N.H.S., and Mr. Brian Booz, Assistant Principal.  The valediction will be given by Ms. Rachel Pearce, Class Advisor.

Gerstell Academy

• When: Wednesday, June 12, 10 a.m.
• Where: On the Campus of Gerstell Academy
• Additional Information: 13 students will be graduating, a local TV personality will be the commencement speaker. 

College Graduation Ceremonies

Carroll Community College

• When:  Wednesday, May 29, 1 p.m.
• Where:  Gill Center, McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster
• Additional Information:  This will be the twentieth graduation class at Carroll Community College (Carroll).  Judy Coen, former dean, department chair and faculty member, will serve as the Commencement speaker.  Anna Cook, a Business Administration major and President of the Student Government Organization at Carroll will serve as the Student Speaker.   Carroll graduate John Jayman will receive the President’s Academic Excellence Award recognizing his 4.0 G.P.A. while earning at least 45 credits and his outstanding commitment to extracurricular activities.

McDaniel College (graduation took place over the weekend)

• When:  Saturday, May 25, 2 p.m.
• Where:  Gill Center, 2 College Hill, Westminster
• Additional Information:  900 students graduated at McDaniel College’s 143rd Commencement.  412 bachelor’s degrees and 488 master’s degrees were awarded.  Honorary degree recipients and husband and wife journalists Al Hunt of Bloomberg News and Judy Woodruff of “PBS NewsHour” were commencement speakers.
