Watch: Owls Track Team Gears Up for State Championship Meet

Westminster High School track and field athletes and coaches talk about their success this season and their hopes for the state track meet.

The track team hasn't seen a county title since 2006. This year, with Head Coach Rob Johnson in his second year at Westminster High School, the team took both the county and regional championship titles.

Johnson said last year he had young talent. This year he said he focused on putting together a strong coaching team and then developed some of that young talent. The team peaked at the right time.

On May 9 both the girls and boys teams won county titles. According to Johnson, the team hadn't won a county title since sharing the title with Francis Scott Key in 2006.

Ten days later the boys team ran away with the regional championship title and the girls took third place in the region.

Johnson attributes his team's successful season to a strong coaching staff and athletes who were willing to work hard.
