Falcons and Owls are Seeded for State Playoffs

As we enter playoff season, the Owls and Falcons basketball teams find out who will they face next.

The Westminster and Winters Mill basketball teams look to extend their seasons as the playoff draws were done Sunday.

The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association basketball playoffs get under way with the boys hitting the court Friday and the girls on Saturday.

Winters Mill is in the 2A West region and the Owls are in the 4A North region.

Both Westminster and Winters Mill get byes in the first round. The Owls will get a rematch with Urbana in the quarterfinals on Feb. 28. The Owls are seeded sixth and Urbana third.

Urbana downed Westminster in the final game of the regular season, 76-62.

After the first round bye, Winters Mill will play the winner of North Carroll and Liberty in the quarterfinals on Feb. 28. The Falcons downed both teams in the regular season. The Falcons are seeded second to county champion, South Carroll.

On the girls side, Westminster is seeded seventh and starts with a bye. They face Woodlawn, the number two seed, in the quarterfinals on March 1.

The Winters Mill girls will see action in the first round on Feb. 26 when they face Walkersville. The Falcons, seeded ninth, will travel to the Frederick County school, who is seeded eighth.

If the Falcons win, they would play top seeded Poolesville in the quarterfinals on March 1.

The girls regional dates are semifinals on March 3 and finals on March 5. The regional winner moves to the state playoffs March 10-12 at UMBC.

The boy semifinals are set for March 2 and the regional finals on March 4. The regional winner advances to the state playoffs March 10-12 at the Comcast Center at the University of Maryland.
