Falcons Three-Peat as County Wrestling Champions

Ten Falcons will move on to the regional competition next weekend.

Winters Mill walked away with the Carroll County wrestling tournament for the third year in a row Saturday night.

The Falcons topped the field with a 183 points compared to second place Century who ended with 157 points. Westminster was eighth in the eight team tournament.

Winters Mill advanced nine wrestlers to the finals and four of them won titles. Leading the way for the victors was Justin Kozera, who continued his undefeated season with a pin in the finals. He is 31-0 on the season with 22 pins.

Also grabbing the top spot for Winters Mill were Taylor Logue, Chase Cullison and Marshal Chang.

"I think the guys are gelling at just the right time. They looked good today. The whole team, I got nothing but praise for them. It’s nice to have momentum in a region as tough as ours,’’ said Falcon head coach John Lowe.

The top three finishers in each weight class advance to the regional tournament next weekend. The Falcons have 10 moving on. The final number will be set on Sunday.

"Hopefully, we can take our first regional tournament next week.,’’ said Lowe.

Westminster was led by senior Darian Meador, who won at 140 pounds. He was the only Owl in the top three when the tournament was over.
