Joe Flacco: Elite, Average Joe, or Good Enough?

The Ravens quarterback takes the field Thursday night for the first time since winning the Super Bowl and earning his new contract.

By Sean Welsh

To many, Joe Flacco answered the question with his Super Bowl ring.

But analysts and fans—let's face it, haters, right?—around the NFL still consider the Ravens quarterback to be Average Joe ... or something less than elite.

ABC2News took a look into the issue on the day leading into Flacco's first game since winning the Super Bowl in February.

The Ravens visit Denver Thursday in a rematch of a tight AFC playoff game from last January—one in which Flacco threw a clutch touchdown pass to Jacoby Jones to reverse Baltimore's fate.

He's thrown more than 100 touchdown passes in his career and led the Ravens to three conference championship games—winning one en route to the Super Bowl, and losing another on a dropped touchdown that would have won the game.

Somehow the debate rages on—and it may continue to linger regardless of how Flacco performs in 2013.

Maybe if he didn't attend a smaller college. Maybe if he was more interesting on camera. Maybe if he tried to put up fantasy statistics instead of wins.

But, then, he wouldn't be the Ravens Super Bowl-winning quarterback, would he?
