Skaters: Skating Not So Easy, Or Safe, At Westminster Skate Park

The City of Westminster will spend around $100,000 to renovate the Westminster Skate Park in the coming months.

The Westminster Skate Park is about to get a lot of love, in the form of a total redo.

Westminster's Common Council budgeted $100,000 for skate park upgrades in the fiscal year 2014 budget.

Local skaters Curtis Blank and Robert Genall told Patch this spring how badly the renovations are needed (see the attached video) saying the park is unsafe and parts of it unusable.

Abby Gruber, Director of Recreation and Parks, reported at a recent city council meeting that the renovations will begin soon and it is her goal to get the renovations done as quickly as possible.

Gruber said she and her staff are exploring different surface options and  equipment and touring other skate parks to insure the city implements equipment that is both skater friendly and durable.

This week Gruber said she will also be meeting with skaters who use the Westminster park to get their input.

Stay tuned to Patch for updates when construction begins.
