Video: Ravens Receive Heart of Westminster

Main Street was purple Saturday as the community rallied around the Baltimore Ravens.

Westminster gave its heart to the Baltimore Ravens Saturday afternoon.

Earlier this month, the Baltimore Ravens announced that the team would not be returning to Westminster (McDaniel College) for training camp this summer. The Baltimore football teams (first the Colts, then the Ravens) have been coming to Westminster for training camp since 1949.

Although the community was disappointed in the decision, Ravens Roost #115, city officials, local business owners and residents wanted to rally to show the Ravens that the city honors its longstanding relationship with the team.

On Saturday, Ravens fans, McDaniel College representatives, Mayor Kevin Utz, and several previous Ravens players gathered at McDaniel College where Mayor Utz proclaimed the day Ravens Day and Ravens mascot Poe received the heart of Westminster--an engraved glass plaque.

A parade then made its way down Main Street and a rally followed on Longwell Ave.
