Westminster Weekend Planner, It's Going to be Packed

Be prepared for some traffic, there are going to be a lot of people coming to Westminster this weekend for some very exciting events.

Westminster is going to be a very busy place this weekend. Patch has picked five events happening around town that might be worth a look. 

17th Annual Lax Max Lacrosse Tournament 

More than 165 teams from across the Mid-Atlantic States will compete in the 17th Annual Lax Max Lacrosse Tournament, which is being held for the first time in Westminster. Beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday, games will be held at the following five locations in and around Westminster: East Middle School, West Middle School/Dutterer Park, Winters Mill High School/Cranberry Station Elementary School, Carroll Community College, and Friendship Valley Elementary School/Kate Wagner Road Fields.

Deer Creek Fiddlers'Convention

Common Ground on the Hill, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, will present the Deer Creek Fiddlers'Convention, a Maryland tradition since 1972, at the Carroll County Farm Museum on Saturday, June 11th from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. The event will combine traditional music and dance with outstanding traditional crafts and arts.

Activities will include band and individual competitions and cash prizes in bluegrass, old-time and Celtic music and southern Appalachian clog dancing.  The Deer Creek Fiddlers' Convention 2011 will also feature an open mike stage, lots of shade tree picking, arts & crafts, food vendors offering traditional Maryland cuisine, and a children's area.

Westminster Farmer's Market

Get your fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, meats, baked goods, cheese, plants, cut flowers and much more at the Conway Parking Lot (Rt. 27 and Emerald Hill Lane) from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Not going to be in Westminster? Check out these other area Farmer's Markets:

Carnival Fun

Check out the TownMall's first carnival in the Sears parking lot. The Jolly Shows carnival will operate Saturday from 1 p.m. until 11 p.m. and Sunday from 3 p.m. until 10 p.m. There are rides, food and games and proceeds will benefit Westminster City Department of Recreation and Parks. The Mount Airy Lions Carnival will also be finishing up with its last day on Saturday.  Located at the Mount Airy Fireman's Carnival Grounds on Rt. 27 and Twin Arch Road, the carnival opens at 6 p.m.
