Carroll County Farm Museum Preps for Fourth of July Fireworks

If weather permits, the Kiwanis Club and Farm Museum will offer up a spectacular fireworks show Thursday night.

Cross your fingers that the rain holds off Thursday evening -- there is no make up date for the Fourth of July fireworks at the Farm Museum in Westminster.

"We either have them, or we don't," a Farm Museum spokesperson said.

But today Farm Museum employees and Kiwanis volunteers (Kiwanis sponsors the fireworks) are moving forward in preparing for the popular annual event.

The Kiwanis Club has been sponsoring the annual fireworks show at the Farm Museum for four years, according to Fireworks Chairman Tom Welliver.

Welliver said that the Kiwanis Club contracts with a company that puts together the fireworks show.

"We tell them how long we want the show to be and hope they fill it with a big finale," Welliver said. "We've always been very happy with what they've done."

The fireworks alone cost about $16,000, Welliver said, and the whole event -- including portable bathrooms, parking, highway patrolman -- costs about $24,000.

Kiwanis raises the money by getting donations from businesses and individuals and by charging a $5 per car parking fee at the event.

Welliver advises people get to the Farm Museum early as they close the entrance at about 8:30 p.m.

Barring bad weather, the fireworks will begin at 9:30 p.m.

Find out about all the great activities happening at the Farm Museum Thursday, July 4 starting at noon. It's worth spending the day as there are craft vendors, wagon rides, live music, historic building tours and fun kid activities too.
