A Treacherous Area on Sullivan Road

Driving Defensively Plus Carroll County road maintenance is needed on Sullivan Road

On Monday morning an accident in the 1700 area of Sullivan Road in which a teacher's life was taken. It is sad to hear of this treacherous section of Sullivan Road that another accident has happened. The trees on the south side of the road keep this a shaded area all day and it never gets to warm up and ice forms early at night and stays on the road later in the morning than in other parts. I don't believe in cutting the wooded area down to prevent this but I have other suggestions.  I suggest that the speed limit in this area from Ships Quarters to MD rt 27 be lowered to 25 or 30 mph and the surface be serrated or ribbed to channel water and give more traction in cold and wet weather. In the past month, I know of three accidents happening in this same area of the roadway where autos have slid off the road way into a deep ditch area or the nearby pasture and fields which Sullivan Road pass through. All need to take this section of road and drive defensively and be careful especially this time of year. We don't have to have a snow fall to make this a dangerous area to drive. In summer the same is after a rain or heavy dew and fog where moisture is on this roadway.
