Road Work on MD 97 at Stone Road Nears Completion

The new intersection helps increase visibility for drivers.

The State Highway Administration says that later this week the relocated intersection of Stone Road and MD 97 in Westminster will open while the old alignment of Stone Road will be closed.

Crews began work in May to relocate the end of Stone Road 1,100 feet north of the current location to provide a more level, straight connection with MD 97, according to an SHA news release.  By moving the intersection and widening it for new acceleration and deceleration lanes, the new traffic pattern makes it easier for the 14,800 drivers who use this intersection to see oncoming traffic on both roads.

Design work in partnership with Carroll County began in 2009. The new intersection includes new designated turn lanes from MD 97 (Littlestown Pike) onto Stone Road, and a designated right turn lane from Stone Road onto southbound MD 97, according to SHA.
