Carroll County Weather: Tuesday May Bring Area's Coldest Temps in 20 Years

With rain, snow and single digit temperatures in the forecast, 2014 will continue to throw messy winter weather at the Mid-Atlantic region this week.

Most noticeable this week will be the bitter cold temperatures forecast Monday through Tuesday. The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Watch from 6 p.m. Monday through noon on Tuesday.

A Wind Chill Watch means there is the potential for a combination of very cold air and strong winds to create dangerously low wind chill values. 

NWS reports that bitterly cold conditions will move in behind an arctic front Monday through Tuesday night. Daily record cold temperatures are expected across the area. This air mass may turn out to be the coldest in 20 years. Dangerously low wind chills are expected during this time.

Monday, Carroll County will see rain and snow, mainly before 11 a.m., according to NWS. Temperatures will fall to around 29 degrees by 5 p.m. with winds increasing to around 20 miles per hour, gusting as high as 38 miles per hour. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. 

Monday night will be partly cloudy with a low around zero and a wind chill as low as fifteen degrees below zero. Wind gusts could be as high as 36 miles per hour. 

Tuesday will be sunny with a high near 11 degrees with wind chills as low as 20 degrees below zero with wind gusts as high as 34 miles per hour. Tuesday night will be mostly clear with a low around five degrees. 

Wednesday will be mostly sunny with a high near 28 degrees, according to NWS. Wednesday night will be mostly cloudy with a low around 24. 

Thursday will be cloudy with a high near 38. There's a 40 percent chance of rain and snow Thursday night with a low around 30 degrees. 

There's a chance of rain and snow on Friday, temperatures will climb to the low 40s.
