Carroll County is the third county in Maryland to pass a resolution in support of the right to own guns.
The Board of Carroll County Commissioners voted unanimously earlier this week to pass a resolution stating that Carroll County is a "Second Amendment Sanctuary County". The resolution (see attached document) is in response to the Maryland State Firearms Act of 2013 passed by legislators in Annapolis earlier this year. The bill bans more than 40 types of guns, requires that all future purchasers of regulated firearms be fingerprinted and licensed and prohibits the possession of ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. Commmissioner Richard Rothschild, who headed the creation of Carroll County's resolution, opened the meeting saying that the board is working to defend freedom. Runners are signing up to get muddy on June 9 in the First Annual Carroll Mud Run to be held at Freedom Park.
Brave runners who don’t mind getting dirty -- it's time to sign up for the First Annual Carroll Mud Run to be held Sunday, June 9 at Freedom Park in Sykesville. There will be an adult 5K Mud Run (for ages 13 and up) as well as a Kids 1-Mile Mud Run that day. For those looking for a more traditional experience, there will also be a regular 5K run available that day. What is a mud run? Essentially a mud run is a 5K race in which runners must scale a series of obstacles that involve climbing, crawling, dodging and wading. Celebrity trainer Jillian Michaels has been officially invited to Westminster to celebrate the one year anniversary of the opening of Dani's Gym.
Dani Knight, owner of Dani's Gym in Westminster, is crossing her fingers that celebrity trainer Jillian Michaels will consider her invite to come to Westminster. "I've met her a few times, she's a great inspiration," Knight said. Knight said when The Biggest Loser, a TV show on which Michaels was a trainer, first aired she had clients tell her she was just like Michaels. Knight said she didn't watch the show because she didn't want people to think she was imitating Michaels. Then, in the ninth season, Knight said she watched the show one evening out of boredom. A new permitting system makes statewide permits available to local wineries wanting to showcase their pours.
Something you're sure to see more and more this season at farmers markets in Carroll County: wine. A new permitting system from the Maryland Department of Agriculture cleans up the old county-by-county process and frees up local wineries to set up shop at as many registered farmers markets as they'd like, a release from the department explains. Sheriff Ken Tregoning announced Thursday afternoon he will not seek re-election in 2014. Tregoning is the 57th sheriff to serve the citizens of Carroll County, since its charter in 1837, and he is completing his fourth term (total of 16 years) in office. "I am extremely grateful to the citizens of Carroll County for allowing me to serve them as sheriff," Tregoning said in a statement. "I strongly believe that local protection for county citizens and law enforcement services are best provided by the Office of Sheriff."
