Local artists are selling their wares at the Carroll County Arts Council through Dec. 22.
Looking for a gift that is both unique and creative but useful and handmade? Look no further than the Carroll County Arts Council where local artists will be on hand in a boutique-style shop through Dec. 22. The Carroll Arts Center continues the annual tradition by transforming their Tevis Gallery into the “Gallery of Gifts” during the holiday shopping season. This special cash-and-carry exhibit will resemble a boutique rather than a traditional gallery exhibit, as 30-plus artists will display their festive wares. There will be a wide variety of hand-crafted creations from inexpensive stocking stuffers, holiday décor and traditional arts and crafts to truly elegant special gifts. Local artists combine with regional artists for a distinct …

Have you seen the art decorating Main Street?
When curious art started appearing recently, dangling from trees on Main Street, Patch set to work to find out who was behind the impromptu decorating. Pam Zappardino is a local art aficionado and faculty member at McDaniel College. Although she wouldn't divulge exactly what her role in the spontaneous art movement is, she did let slip some interesting information. According to Zappardino, "Guerrilla art shows up when least expected." She said that part of the fun is in the mystery of it. "The mystery is part of the art," Zappardino told Patch in a Facebook chat. "The idea is to show Westminster as an art town, but mostly for people to have fun enjoying the installations as they appear." "There's lots of bad news around everywhere these …

Winters Mill High School junior Anna Eckard spoke about her trip to Japan through the People to People program.
Anna Eckard has been involved with the Carroll County Arts Council since it was a small organization operating out of a basement. She has worked at the Arts Council for years, designing and building sets for children's shows, applying makeup, and working as a counselor for the kids in the camp. "I stayed with it because of all the friends I know and the great sense of community it gives to artists who really don't always have that," she said. "I worked in the theater there because it was less pressure than school theater, and I'm pretty shy. It's nice to have a place outside of school to help you with art and theater, and meet new friends and connections." She decided to take that experience one step further by traveling to Japan via the …
