Art in the Park promises creative fun and intrigue for the whole family.
There is no better place to find a unique and personal gift for a graduate or dad (Father's Day is right around the corner!) than at Art in the Park. The Carroll County Arts Council has partnered with the City of Westminster for three decades to present Art in the Park, an outdoor cultural festival that is held the first Saturday in June on the beautiful grounds of Westminster City Hall. Joan Shearer “brushes” off her watercolor skills after more than 35 years.
Joan Shearer took art lessons in 1975. But it wasn’t until three years ago when she set out to create paintings for her living room that she picked up her brushes once again. And she hasn’t set them down since. After completing paintings for her own living room, Shearer began painting requests for friends. Soon, her paintings of local buildings and people gained acclaim and she found herself filling more and more requests. Today her paintings sell in stores and at craft shows all around Carroll County. “Once I started, I wanted to keep going," Shearer said. "Now I have too many for the wall.” Shearer loves to paint old things--old buildings and old men in particular, because they both have character, she said. She admits that she loves …

The Carroll County Farmers Market is holding it Christmas Craft Show on Saturdays including Nov. 26, Dec. 3, 10 and 17 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m at the Ag Center. The market, which has been selling local goods to consumers for more than 30 years, boasts 100 crafters and food vendors. It is the second oldest farmers market in the State of Maryland. You can find a variety of goodies including homemade pies, cakes, rolls and even British scones. Local handmade crafts, textiles and art are for sale for holiday gifts. Annual event brings together 50 vendors and close to 3,000 shoppers.
The 38th Annual Mistletoe Mart kicks off the beginning of the holiday shopping season for many local residents. With 50 vendors, all selling hand made crafts, Mistletoe Mart Publicity Chair Sandy White said there is something for everyone. "We try to offer a balanced variety of items," White said. "We bring in 12-15 new vendors each year." This show is what's known as a "juried show" meaning each vendor is personally interviewed and selected for participation in the event. White said they go through a painstaking process to insure that each vendor offers unique, quality items. Marcie Forster, co-chair of the Mistletoe Mart said the event has been going on since 1973.
