High School Students from three Carroll County schools pledged to not use tanning beds during prom season.
Prom is an important event for many high school students--an event that requires manicures, pedicures, new clothes, and maybe even a tan for that skin that has been covered during the long winter months. Each spring, in honor of May as Skin Cancer Awareness Month, Carroll Hospital Center uses grant money from the Cigarette Restitution Fund to educate local high school students about the dangers of tanning bed use. Nurse and community educator at the Carroll Hospital Center, Marcia McMullin said that her team visited North Carroll, Manchester Valley and South Carroll High schools during lunch periods this spring. The Falcon boys basketball team has another tough game on Friday as they travel to Century for a match up of the two second place teams in the county. Winters Mill’s…

In a make-up game Thursday night, the Owls took control of the Eagles early and won the game by 27 points.
The Westminster boys basketball team is feeling confident after their 67-40 win against Francis Scott Key last night. Coach Steve Byrnes is hoping the momentum will carry over tonight as they travel to Manchester Valley. The Owls took the lead against the Eagles early and protected it the entire game. The Eagles, playing without their starting guard and leading scorer, Tyler Zimmerman, stayed close for most of the first half, at times only trailing by a couple baskets. It wasn't until the third quarter that the Owls exploded and really took ownership of the game. Coach Steve Byrnes said that during half time he told his team not to take the foot off the pedal. "I told them it's time to grow up as basketball players. We had the lead, it …
