Rita’s is open and I’m sure I saw some flowers blooming this weekend, but still, we have to think about snow. The National Weather Service is forecasting some precipitation Monday afternoon. Temperatures are expected to reach the high-30s, so NWS does not expect accumulation, but still, maybe snow. The rain will continue into Monday night, when temperatures drop to the mid- 30s. Rain and possibly snow will keep falling Tuesday morning. Temperatures will rise to the low-50s with gusty winds, as fast as 37 mph at times. Friday, expect cloudy skies and temperatures reaching the mid-50s. There’s a 40 percent chance of rain or snow late Friday night, with temperatures in the mid-30s. Officials are warning that the storm Friday afternoon could cause complications.
This story was updated at 11:20 a.m. Friday Weather, highway and school officials are preparing for a fast-moving storm Friday afternoon that has already resulted in early dismissal times at Howard County and Carroll County Schools and could make for a potentially difficult commute. Howard County Public Schools will close 1.5 hours early Friday in anticipation of the storm and Carroll County schools will close two hours early. Baltimore, Anne Arundel and Montgomery schools are also among those that have announced earlier on Friday that they will close schools early Friday. Carroll County is awaiting its first significant snowfall of 2013.
Carroll County residents could be in for their first big snowfall of 2013 this weekend. Forecasts vary, but a storm projected to reach the Baltimore metro area on Friday could dump a few inches of powder just in time for the weekend. Weather.com forecasts about 1-to-3 inches of snow for the area, depending upon the forecast models. Weather.gov forecasts a 60 percent chance of snow on Friday with a 40 percent chance of accumulation Friday night. The projected high for Friday is 26 degrees, with a low of 17 degrees. There's also a 70 percent chance of snow Wednesday night into Thursday morning, according to Weather.gov. Areas south of Carroll will see more snow.
Carroll County could see snow Thursday, although forecasts are predicting that areas south will see more accumulation. The NWS is reporting that there is a chance of snow in Carroll County starting Thursday afternoon. There is a 30 percent chance of precipitation and new snow accumulation of less than one inch is possible. Areas south are expected to get more of the storm. The NWS has issued a hazardous weather outlook for the DC metro area. According to the alert, "snow may become heavy in the afternoon and evening ... could significantly impact the evening rush-hour commute."
