A wintry weather mix is expected to continue throughout the day.
Carroll County Public Schools are closed today due to inclement weather according to an email alert from the school system. Other closings/delays include: Carroll County was issued a winter weather advisory yesterday afternoon, to continue through 6 p.m. this evening. The Snow Emergency Plan is in effect as of 6 a.m. Monday in Carroll County. The Maryland State Police (MSP) declares snow emergencies with input from the MD State Highway Administration. Once a snow emergency is declared, the law requires certain precautions which include prohibited parking on roads and streets designated as snow emergency routes and the use of snow or all weather tires.

The advisory lasts from 5 a.m. until noon in much of Maryland.
Much of Maryland—from the D.C. metro area to the Baltimore suburbs—is under a winter weather advisory Monday morning. The advisory is in effect from 5 a.m. until noon in Baltimore, Carroll, Harford, Howard and Montgomery counties, as well as Baltimore City, the National Weather Service announced Sunday afternoon. Temperatures are expected to be in the high 20s by midday, but morning commuters may encounter freezing rain mixed with sleet and possibly snow, according to the advisory. Only a trace of accumulation is expected. Winds from the south will gust to 10 to 15 mph, the advisory said. The precipitation "will cause travel difficulties," the advisory said. Two to four inches of snow may fall in Carroll County on Dec. 29.
Carroll County will get another round of snow before the new year begins, according to the National Weather Service. Snow will start falling overnight Friday through late Saturday afternoon in Carroll County, according to the National Weather Service forecast. Approximately 2 to 4 inches will accumulate, the report said. The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for the Baltimore-Washington area—including Carroll, Harford, northern Baltimore, and Frederick—from 3 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. A winter weather advisory means that snow-covered roads and limited visibilities may make travel difficult. The State Highway Administration (SHA) and Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. (BGE) are warning residents that high winds, cold temperatures and icy roads may cause troubles Thursday. The National Weather Service is forecasting freezing rain overnight into Thursday morning as well as fog and temperatures in the mid- to high-30s. Winds are expected to pick up speed into Thursday, when gusts could approach 50 mph. "When you step out and see ice on your doorstep, you can assume that roads will be icy as well," SHA Administrator Melinda Peters said in a statement. The Christmas Eve snow storm may not be the last we see of the white stuff this holiday break.
Snow came hard and fast on Christmas Eve, dropping several inches around Carroll County. Keep the gloves and sleds handy as more wintry weather is in the forecast. The National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts Christmas day to be partly cloudy with a high of 42 degrees. There is a Dense Fog Advisory for the area until 8 a.m. Tuesday. We will see a low of 29 degrees Christmas night. There is a 100 percent chance of a wintry mix on Wednesday with a high of 36 degrees and a low of 35 degrees overnight. Thursday will be partly cloudy and windy with a 20 percent chance of precipitation according to the NWS. Be prepared for winter weather, and possibly messy roads, Tuesday morning.
A winter weather advisory has been issued for Carroll County from 1 a.m. until noon on Tuesday. According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Carroll County could see accumulations of one to two inches, mainly along the Mason Dixon line Tuesday morning. A mix of rain and snow is expected to develop between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m., changing to all snow after 3 a.m. and continuing through late morning according to the NWS. We will see temperatures in the lower 30s overnight and the upper 30s during the day Tuesday. The NWS warns that a slushy accumulation could form on roads. Drivers could also face snow covered roads and limited visibility at times.

Are you a weather watcher at heart? Here's your chance to get some official training.
The National Weather Service (NWS) is offering classes for local residents who are interested in becoming weather spotters. The classes are designed to educate the public on weather threats in this area, as well as strengthen the ties between the NWS and the local community. The more spotters the NWS has out there, the faster vital information gets to the NWS forecasters who make the decisions to issue life-saving weather warnings, according to a NWS statement. Skywarn Spotter Classes are offered free of charge. A National Weather Service meteorologist will teach the class.
