Westminster Landlords are required to register with the city by June 1.
A city official reported at a recent Westminster Common Council meeting that the city has received its first application and payment in the newly formed landlord licensing program. In late January, the Mayor and Common Council voted to implement the Landlord Licensing ordinance after nearly nine months of research, public hearings and discussion. A Rental Licensing & Inspection Program Task Force was created by the Common Council last spring to conduct research and propose ordinance language. Westminster's Common Council agrees to move to a complaint driven process rather than the proposed mandatory inspections of rental units.
Westminster's Mayor and Common Council gave the Landlord Licensing and Rental Inspection Task Force some new direction at Monday night's meeting after discussing feedback from the recent landlord licensing public hearing. "We need a sense of direction ... a clear sense of where we're going so I don't waste your time or my committee's time going down roads we don't want to go down," said Dan Hoff, chairman of the Rental Licensing & Inspection Program Task Force. Westminster's Mayor and Common Council heard feedback from citizens and landlords about the proposed Landlord Licensing Program.
The overwhelming majority of the 150 plus people at the Landlord Licensing and Inspection Program public hearing said they do not support the program as presented. Mayor Kevin Utz told Patch that he and the common council have a lot to discuss based on citizen's comments at the public hearing. "I know that this is controversial," Utz said. There was standing room only at City Hall last night as interested citizens and landlords filled the City Council meeting to learn more about a proposed landlord licensing program for the city. Dan Hoff, chairman of the Rental Licensing & Inspection Program Task Force, presented the initial thoughts and suggestions of the task force to the mayor and common council. Seems like the City and the Council is always finding ways to generate more money. In this case,most of the money will give someone a job at top salary. HMMMMM who do they have in mind? Does anyone know why the City did a reorganization to give a person that was hired to fill a slot while a person was on military duty? What a waste of money.   more ›
