Commissioners Join "Strategic Alliance," Hire Lobbyist

Carroll's commissioners spent $5,000 on a lobbyist as part of a new "strategic alliance" with three other counties.

Leaders in Allegany, Carroll, Frederick and Washington Counties announced the creation of the Maryland Rural Counties Coalition on Monday. The alliance hopes to bring other rural counties into the fold with a goal of strengthening policy related standing in state government, according to a news release. The alliance retained two legislative lobbyists. Carroll County and Allegheny County contributed $5,000 to retain William Miles while Frederick and Washington Counties contributed funds to retain Bruce Bereano. It has not been THAT long ago that there was considerable criticism because Frank Johnson, who was also in the legal department when not in Annapolis, was our Carroll County's "lobbyist" when the General Assembly was in session.
