Since you and B.O. were there to represent the political establishment, the Governor apparently took the day off.

Buzz Beeler is a pushy and extremely prideful man who is not to be contradicted. He suppresses conversation. He denigrates involvement and the only thing that keeps him from running roughshod over everyone is vitriol.
Marge, when you shelter a bigot like Buzz, you lose credibility.

"Given the importance of the death penalty as a symbol in American
life and the perceived political risk to public officials who appear unsympathetic
to the use of the death penalty, this record comes as no
great surprise. Nevertheless, for a nation with a historical commitment
to equal justice under the law, the story is a disappointment. In
particular, the empirical findings from Philadelphia and New Jersey
reported in this Article, 223 indicate that the problem of arbitrariness
and discrimination in the administration of the death penalty is a matter
of continuing concern and is not confined to southern jurisdictions." http://www.lawschool.cornell.edu/research/cornell-law-review/upload/baldus.pdf
