Dr. Laura Ruby, Neighbor

Dr. Laura Ruby is a doctorally prepared nurse practitioner with over 25 years of health care experience. She has specialized in the field of endocrinology for the past 10 years with a special focus on women with metabolic disorders such as polycystic ovarian syndrome, insulin resistance, pre-diabetes, diabetes and thyroid disorders. Dr. Ruby obtained her nurse practitioner education from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland and her clinical doctorate (DNP) from the University of Maryland at Baltimore. She currently serves as an adjunct faculty for Widener University’s Family Nurse Pracitioner Program and honorary faculty for University of Maryland’s Adult Nurse Practitioner Program.

A Visionary Approach to Women’s Health and Wellness.

Dr. Ruby is known for her visionary approach to women’s health and wellness. She developed the concept of “Peeling the Onion” to increase women’s awareness chronic symptoms and to offer solutions to help women achieve optimal health and balance. She is a passionate speaker on various topics related to women’s health and published an article in the Journal of Nurse Practitioners entitled Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome: An evidence based approach to managing hormonal and metabolic consequences. Dr. Ruby believes that many of the chronic issues that women experience are either caused by or exacerbated by an underlying deficiency in nutrients, vitamins or minerals. Because of this belief, she is transitioning her current professional practice to include integrative medicine and is working towards her certification in Functional Medicine.
